The Zetec motor has been getting alot of heat. the club held a meeting to seeif the motor would be alowed to run next season as a test motor. The clb voted and the motor is alowed to run as a test motor only.
I am in the process of writing up the rules that will govern this motor. We are trying to ensure that the motor is competative and cost efective. The concerns we have is that there will be a loop hole that someone may find and be dominating.
The entent of this motor is to be a low cost, dependable race engine for the class in the future. If we find that it is too hard to police the club reserves the right to change the rules or disallow the motor at any time.
Please click on comments and tell me waht you think about the Zetec motor?
Hey craiger...I hear that alot of people are tossing the idea of running the Ztec 2.o litre I'm hearing it more and more lately and I wonder if people are still aware that this is still under testing . Many think that there should be a limit on how many cars are testing an engine one was good two is better because you have 2 cars to compare , but i think if half the field is running these engines in the test season when we vote on it next fall it will be a pretty lop sided vote. In my opinion which is shared by others in the club ...the solid lifter weight penalty rule is what is really hurting any other engine expansion programs in this club. nobody wants to weigh 2000 lbs yet alot of the other engines in the 2.4 range with 8 valves and rear wheel drive avalaibility are solid lifters. continued in next comment...
the solid lifter weight penalty rule continued... is what is really hurting any other engine expansion programs in this club. Nobody wants to weigh 2000 lbs this leaving everyone to use the 2.3 litre ford wich is old heavy and getting harder and harder to find. Yet alot of the engines in the 2.4 range such as "NISSAN to name one" is rear wheel drive, single cammed and at most wreckers but has solid lifters . I toyed around with possibly a Toyota campaign next year ,again its a solid lifter single cam engine and I don't want a TANK ,the toyota was not as common at the wreckers yet I did find what I was looking for. What's with Ford ? what happened to Chevy in the mix of things ,what about the S-10 4cylinders(rear wheel drive with a 5 speed) although I don't know if the chevy 4 bangers are solid's, I know their out there all over the place. Thats not even taking into acount what dodge has to offer. Everyone's got such a "hard-on" for these ztec engines, there are still single cam 8 valve engines out there. Why not have the next guy test something different instead of the same thing ? is that not what testing is for ?
hopefully I havent affended any of my fellow competitors with my opinions Shean Carey #55
In responce to Shean's comments. As far as I'm aware there are only two people preparing to run the Zetec motor. Everyone needs to be aware that this motor is a test motor and the club reserves the right to allow or disallow this motor at any time. If you plan on running this motor for 2008 it is possible that in 2009 it could be discontinued. Please keep this in mind when you consider running this motor.
As for other engines being run? Any other manufacture is welcome as long as it is a single cam engine. If they are solid lifter than you have to increase the wieght. This is a rule that has been around longer than I have and was inducted to keep the field competative.
In closing I feel that everyone has blown this Zetec moter way out of propotion. The only car with this motor only became competative near the end of the season and at no time dominated the club. If this car had a good 2.3 hee would have killed us. Please remember the driver of this car has many years of seat time and could have taken my car and dominated were I can't.
The club is still working hard on specs por this motor and policing ideas. We already have 2 alturnatives to some of the items to retrofit from a 2.3 to the zetec. Rob Park has found that a bell housing from 2 L bolts on with very litle machine work to fit starter. Jay hewer is working on a simple adapter to allow the intake from the Zetec to be used.
As a club we need to keep an open mind and I feel this is an important step towards evolving in the future of this class.
We are growing! Lets concentrate on that and move forward.
I run a car in Florida and am looking at building a new car using the focus motor , can anyone help me with info on where bellhousing, intake and exhaust headers are available or info on converting other parts for it. Thankyou , in advance , Mike rydermike02@hotmail.com
